The origin of our pieces

At Maison Layali, every piece tells you who makes it and where it comes from. We are honest about origin, with three clear labels.

Honest about where it comes from

Not everything at Maison Layali comes from Egypt, and we would rather say so ourselves. Every product carries one of these three labels. On the product page, you can read exactly where and by whom it was made.

  • Handmade in EgyptMade by hand in small workshops, such as the glassblowers in Cairo and the potters in Fayoum.
  • Made in EgyptWoven and sewn in Egypt, from Delta cotton.
  • Inspired by EgyptDesigned after the colours and shapes of Egypt, made in carefully chosen workshops elsewhere.

How we use the labels

We only put "Handmade in Egypt" or "Made in Egypt" on a product when the maker or seller states it about the piece themselves. If we cannot back it up, we choose the label that is accurate.

On the product page, every piece also shows the brand or maker and the material.

You see the label with every piece in the shop: at the table, in the living room, the bathroom and the bedroom.

Questions about origin

Does everything at Maison Layali come from Egypt?

No. Part of the collection comes from European workshops that work in the same spirit. Those pieces carry the label Inspired by Egypt.

What is the difference between handmade and made in Egypt?

Handmade in Egypt means a piece was made by hand in a small workshop, like mouth-blown glass and painted pottery. Made in Egypt means it was woven and sewn in Egypt, like bedding and towels.

Where can I read who makes a piece?

On the product page: it shows the brand or maker and the material of every piece.
