Gadus vase, alabaster

A slender alabaster vase, carved by hand in Luxor. It is 20 cm tall, with an opening of 9 cm across at the top.

The shape is elongated and simple, so the stone itself takes centre stage. The surface is smooth and lets a little light through, and the natural veins in the alabaster run differently in every vase. Small differences in colour and size are part of the handwork: no two vases are the same.

Alabaster is porous and does not hold water. If you want to use fresh flowers, first place a glass or a small bag of water inside the vase. Empty, with dried flowers or with a single branch, it works just as well. Pair it with the Luxor candlestick or the Moon dish, both also made of alabaster.

Care: Alabaster is a soft stone that absorbs water. Wipe it with a dry or slightly damp cloth, without cleaning products, and never put water directly into it.
